Definition and Area of Application:
This colorless salt is a glass ethocant and intermediate in the once-considered hydrofluoric acid pathway. It is ammonium bifluoride, or flaky crystal. It is readily soluble in water. Ammonium hydrogen fluoride is produced from ammonia and hydrogen fluoride. Ammonium bifluoride was considered an intermediate in the production of hydrofluoric acid from hexafluorosilicic acid.
Areas of Application
- It dissolves in water and forms a weak hydrofluoric acid solution.
- The gas can collect in enclosed spaces. Do not use steel, nickel, or aluminum containers.
- Ammonium bifluoride (also known as ammonium hydrogen fluoride) is used as a polishing salt for metal surfaces, such as aluminum.
- Ammonium bifluoride is used in etched glass, antiseptics, beryllium solvents, polonium as a surface-forming agent, analytical agents, and as an inoculation agent for siliceous steel plates.
- Ammonium bifluoride is used in glass spinning and the extraction of rare elements, or as an antiseptic and mordant.
- Ammonium bifluoride can also be used as a wood preservative, an aluminum brightening agent, a rust remover in the textile industry, and an analytical reagent, etc.
- Ammonium bifluoride is used in the acid treatment of oil fields and in the manufacture of magnesium and magnesium alloys. It can be used as a light eliminator, freeze-producing agent, and etchant glass.
- Ammonium bifluoride or an antifungal sealant can provide long-term protection against decay to Douglas fir stakes.
- Other applications of ammonium bifluoride include frosting the glass surfaces of light bulbs, perfume bottles, and building windows, and its use in numerous chemical processes.
